The first words that come to mind when I think of my beauty routine? Simple. Natural. Low maintenance.
I have a bunch of basics that I love and use every day, but they're really just that: basics. I'm a no makeup kind of girl. In fact, the only times I wear makeup at all are for job interviews and weddings, if then. Most of the time I like to keep any junk off my skin, which seems to keep it in much better shape. The times that I've worn makeup I seem to get more breakouts and more dryness. My skin tends to get really dry, so I'm always on the lookout for moisturizers and products for sensitive skin.
I also try to find products that are vegetarian or vegan, have ingredients that I recognize, and especially being pregnant, are safe for me and baby and the planet. Most of these products are ones that I've been using for years, and have no intention of changing any time soon.
Badger Baby Sunscreen Cream / Love this stuff. I've tried one or two other zinc-based sunscreens that made me itchy, but this one protects my skin well, smells great, and works for my sensitive skin.
Crystal Body Deodorant / I've been using this for years, and it works well and lasts for ages. Keep in mind that it's not an antiperspirant, so if you don't like to sweat, it's probably not for you. I'd rather avoid the aluminum.
Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Liquid Soap / This stuff makes my skin tingle and feel clean. We bought a big bottle of it months ago and we're still working our way through it. It smells great and is multi-purpose.
Nature's Gate Shampoo / I've tried most of the Nature's Gate shampoo line, and am happy with all of them. The tea tree one's my favorite.
Tom's of Maine Peppermint Toothpaste / Ever since I became a vegetarian at the end of high school, I've supported Tom's of Maine. I was pretty sad to see their metal tubes go away years ago (now they use plastic), but it's the same great toothpaste. I like this one especially because it's ADA approved.
Palmer's Cocoa Butter Cream / I wanted to find a good belly cream, but most of them contain almond oil, which I'm allergic to. Luckily Palmer's cocoa butter cream has safe ingredients and smells wonderful. It's a little greasy, but I don't mind.
Kiss My Face Coconut Pineapple Lip Balm / Lip balm is one thing I'll experiment with, and this one smells like the beach and keeps my lips well moisturized.
A few other favorites of mine? Badger Damascus Rose Beauty Balm is my top choice for face moisturizer in the winter. I love how it smells -- so calming! And Badger also makes incredible cocoa butter lip balms. I'm a huge fan of Badger products.
I've gotta say -- I'm pretty excited to start researching baby safe products too. Just like what I use, I'll be looking for minimal ingredients, ingredients that I can pronounce, and products that are safe for me, baby, and the environment.
I'd love to hear your recommendations too!
